First NESO event
|
The grid needed help on a June evening. Our drivers answered.
|
On Thursday 18 June, Electric Miles completed its first live event on NESO's Demand Flexibility Service. When the grid came under pressure that evening, our platform signalled more than 1,800 drivers across 9 regions of England to ease their charging.
Over the event window, 14,000+ automatic half-hourly dispatches went out to home chargers, and around 600 drivers who were charging at the time delivered roughly 0.6 MWh of flexibility back to the grid.
No apps to open. No schedules to change. Every car still ready when its driver needed it. That is what smart charging looks like when it just works.
This first event was deliberately modest, and we are open about that. What it proves is the model: thousands of home chargers responding together, automatically. And with our entry into the wholesale energy market, that kind of response now has real value attached.
|
How the event looked: charging eased through the 18:00–22:00 window and shifted to later in the evening.

What's new
|
We have entered the wholesale energy market
This is what turns grid events like 18 June into revenue, unlocking up to £300 per charger per year. Today we deliver this through our CPMS, and bringing the same layer on top of your existing CPMS is on our roadmap.

Welcoming Energy Mix Ventures
We're excited to welcome Angela McKane and her team at Energy Mix Ventures to our investor base, joining a group that includes Zorlu Capital in Turkey and Pragma Tech in Europe, and here in the UK the Low Carbon Innovation Fund, Blue Lake Capital, and a number of industry angels.
Energy Mix Ventures invests in the opportunities created by the world's changing energy mix, with a focus on energy security, modernising transport and smart grids. That is exactly where Electric Miles sits: EV chargers as grid assets, aggregated into virtual power plants. Angela founded the firm after 15 years at bp, where as Vice President of Technology Insights she scouted high-potential energy technologies for investment. An investor with that lens choosing Electric Miles is a strong signal for our thesis.

The proof
“Clean, easy to use.”
That is how a charger manufacturer described our Asset Viewer after we gave their team access during a hardware investigation at a major customer site. With zero training and no demo, they found the configurations, diagnostics, and OCPP logs they needed and resolved the issue.
Intuitive tools mean faster troubleshooting and better collaboration between platforms, manufacturers, and support teams. That is the standard we build to.

Out and about
Electric Miles at the House of Commons
This month we were invited to Parliament by the Association for Decentralised Energy to make the case for consumer flexibility in the UK's energy future. The numbers frame the challenge: the UK needs to grow consumer flexibility from around 2.5 GW today to 10 to 12 GW by 2030, and EVs on driveways and in depots are the biggest untapped resource. We brought proof, not just opinion: 25,000 flex events delivered on the DSO side, now listed as a NESO Demand Flexibility Service provider, and certified with Flex Assure. One platform, both markets, a UK first.

Charge at home?
Drivers on SmartFlex were part of that June evening too, supporting the grid without lifting a finger. If you drive electric at home, you can be part of the next one.
